Scarabs.

There's something about scarabs that I find so fascinating. I can't put my finger on it, but it must definitely have something to do with my fascination with all things Ancient Egyptian, where the scarab beetle was seen as being 'sacred'.

I read on Wikipedia, that "the scarab was linked to Khepri ("he who has come into being"), the god of the rising sun. The ancients believed that the dung beetle was only male in gender, and reproduced by depositing semen into a dung ball. The supposed self-creation of the beetle resembles that of Khepri, who creates himself out of nothing." ... which I found quite interesting!

I'm not much of an insect-lover, in fact, not at all... but it must be seeing how the scarab has been used in jewellery and ornamentation that has made me love them. I strangely see them as edgy ladybirds.

Anyway, the point of this entry was to actually show-off my scarab ACEO that I purchased from fuzzydragons. I first saw its development on her blog, where she was experimenting with a tattoo design for herself and I thought it was amazing! I snapped it up as soon as I saw that it was available as an ACEO!

I think this design is definitely tattoo-worthy, but then again, it is easier said than done!

I have also come across the most stunning leather cuff by sunnyrising, who specialises in leather accessories. This cuff has a super-intricate carved scarab where she has also painted it with beautiful shades of gold. I literally said 'wow' when I first saw this piece.

You can see it here in the actual listing, where she is also modelling it. Beautiful! Something a modern day Cleopatra would definitely be wearing!
