MCMExpo London - May 2011

This is the second time I have been to London's MCMExpo and it was great! I was slightly disappointed that there were not as many people in Cosplay as there was in October (unless it was just bad timing)...but I wasn't in costume...so maybe I don't have the right to complain! The guy below was one of the first 'wow' costumes I saw and he loved the attention! I don't know who he is supposed to be so if anyone knows, please tell me!A classic, Darth Vader! This girl looked amazing! Her make-up was flawless and it looked like she had literally jumped out of an Anime. My sister told me who she was but I don't remember, but she definitely had one of the most realistic looks!Silent Hill character- Pyramid Head also looked brilliant! I think the fact he was also alone gave a sense of eeriness whenever we saw him because he was always walking at a slow pace while dragging the Great Knife...and even when we saw him in the queue (for tickets), it seemed like people were stood further away from him compared to everyone else! This group was just cute and lots of fun!Shiva Sisters from Final Fantasy - a brilliant look and if I had the guts for it, I would want to do this with my sister!Goku in Super Saiyan mode (or something like that, I haven't watched Dragonball since I was about 10!).These girls looked brilliant together as characters from the Vocaloid Anime and really shows that big props make a huge difference to the overall look of a costume!Overall, a really fun day out but they have really got to sort out the queuing system! Also, there is a section at the event where Cosplayers (people in costume) get to perform and I missed out on this last time, so I was totally set on going on this occasion! However - when I wanted to go in, I was told that I had to go and get (free) tickets from a location on the other side of where I was, which was totally ridiculous because there are so many people and it can take ages getting from one side to the other! Why couldn't it have just been at the front of the venue!?! Anyway, we decided to give it a miss and to get the tickets for this the next time we attended.
My highlight of the event was the discovery of a newly released comic book which my sister and I purchased all 4 volumes that were available!

Slip Dress.

Some of you may know that I've had my Etsy shop for quite a while now and I have definitely been neglecting the clothing part of it! I really wanted to start adding more clothing but it can really take time making them from scratch, so...I had an idea to buy vintage pieces that I can rework or just even repair. I knew that this could really get out of hand, so I decided to focus on my favourite pieces such as slip dresses which I love the idea of reworking so that they can be worn as evening dresses or just a beautiful Summer dress...then I decided on wedding dresses as I've always had a thing about them especially when designers like to present a wedding dress at the end of a fashion show! Now, this idea was many months ago, and many months later I feel like I have enough vintage clothing to open up my own vintage shop! However, that's not going to happen anytime soon but here is a sneak preview of some vintage slip dresses I have managed to find! I almost don't want to do anything to them as they are so beautiful as they are, but I would never personally wear them (outside)...especially in cold, rainy London (although admittedly it has been quite nice here in the past few weeks!)...so, check back soon to see what I create from them!

Upgrade.

I've had my Sony Ericsson j300i for about 7 years which my friends and family have always been amused about as it's such a basic phone and as I have an online shop and a blog, they imagine that I would want to access my emails and other things whenever I wanted to! It's totally true of course, if someone asks a question concerning a product in my Etsy Shop, I would love to answer them back as soon as I can...and blogging via my phone would be brilliant! However, with my j300i, I was on Pay-As-You-Go and literally spending £10 a month.....the step up from that to paying £35 a month AND being on contract had really put me off upgrading for a very long time! However, as you can see, I have finally succumbed! Now that I have been working full-time for a couple of years now, I could really see the benefit in having a phone that would allow me to do what I would usually- and could only do at home...and I am having less and less time to do so! I had been close to buying for a few months but kept putting it off, especially as I had to pay £140 for the actual handset, on top of the monthly bill....but then one day when I was browsing the Orange website, I noticed the same offer I had been constantly looking at had changed - the handset was now free!
I saw this as the right time to purchase and proceeded! A phone call with Customer Service confirmed that the free handset was actually a mistake but they would still need to honour it, so I was very lucky!I've had my brand spanking new iPhone 3GS for a few days now and it's been very handy! I'm definitely using the map, weather, email, train times functions/apps the most...along with the games which has seemed to replace reading a newspaper on the train! The only issue I have at the moment is that the battery life goes extremely quickly...my sister told me there is a portable charger but I really don't want to add another thing to my bag! Overall, really happy with my new phone...I actually can't believe I'd been using such a basic phone for such a long time! I might have to hold back on other luxuries (thinking of cancelling my LOVEFiLM subscription) so that the £35 a month charge isn't too much of a shock (but I also have insurance at £12 a month) in comparison to my previous £10 a month phone spend!
If there are any Apps I must have, please recommend away! Also, if you are looking for a basic phone - text, make and receive calls... I would absolutely recommend the Sony Ericsson j300i! It is so tiny and very easy to use!
